The Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is set to receive $8 million in grant funding for its Concourse Modernization project, ElevateCOS, from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as part of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). The grant was awarded through a competitive process known as the Airport Terminal Program (ATP), which aims to address aging infrastructure, improve terminal capacity, enhance environmental sustainability and accessibility, and encourage competition. COS has previously received funds for the project, which commenced in September 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2026.

Greg Phillips, Director of Aviation, emphasized the importance of the FAA's support, stating, “These funds will significantly contribute to enhancing our travelers' experience for many years to come.”

The majority of the financial support for this project comes from federal grants, including the ATP and the Airport Improvement Grant (AIG), both of which are FAA-funded awards. The funding for the remaining portion of the estimated $38 million project will be drawn from Airport reserves, Passenger Facility Charges (PFC), and a grant from Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), without the involvement of taxpayer dollars.

The Airport’s Concourse Modernization project is a complete remodel of the terminal concourse to include hold rooms, restrooms, ceilings, windows, elevators, flooring, the Public Address (PA) system, space for new retail and food and beverage options, and more. The modernization will increase terminal sustainability and improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

The concourse improvements will not only increase passenger capacity but also easily accommodate elevated traffic levels. In addition to refining traffic flow, the project will provide travelers with disabilities a more equitable airport experience with planned Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades.
