Residents invited to virtual events to discuss priorities for 2022 federal grant funds

The Community Development Division invites residents, advocates and stakeholders to share their experiences and views on affordable housing, infrastructure and services for low and moderate income community members. Input will be used to inform the City’s 2022 Annual Action Plan for the use of federal block grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The City typically receives about $5 million per year to support affordable housing, homelessness prevention, economic development, non-profit assistance and neighborhood improvements for low-income populations. The City has received additional funds to address the pandemic-related impacts on these needs, as well. While the 2022 total grant amount has yet to be determined, the City is preparing its 2022 Annual Action Plan, which outlines how we will strategically invest these funds to support high-poverty neighborhoods and vulnerable populations. The annual funds come through three programs: the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) Program. Additional relief funds have been made available by the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan Act.

The City’s Community Development Division manages these funds and awards them to local agencies, nonprofits, and developers to accomplish our shared goals of helping low-income households. The Community Development staff invites the public to learn about the impact of the funds as well as share their views on affordable housing and community development priorities to help ensure the Annual Action Plan is responsive to the needs of our community. The City also wants to hear how residents’ needs and priorities may have changed this year.

How to Participate

There are several options to participate. A video will be available online to provide a general overview. Residents can then attend one or more of four (4) topic-focused virtual meetings online. Each meeting will provide the same summary of previous funding impact, then allow for input and feedback from attendees on their community’s needs and experiences. Each meeting will be recorded and available for viewing online. Stakeholders with input on multiple topics do not need to attend more than one and can provide input at any meeting they attend. Input is also welcomed by email and phone.

The City encourages all residents to participate, especially neighborhood leaders, service providers and community advocates. Attendance is free and requires an internet connection with a current web browser. The meetings will include closed captions in English, Spanish, French, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese. To request another interpreter for the meeting, please call (719) 385-5859 or email at least 48 hours before the start time. Interpreters are provided by request at no cost to the requestor.*
