Detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Homicide/Assault Unit have continued the investigation into the shooting that occurred on January 20, 2022, that resulted in the death of Kristopher Wilson.

On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, detectives applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for 25-year-old Jesus Velasco of Colorado Springs for one count of murder in the first degree. Mr. Velasco was served with the arrest warrant at the El Paso County jail, after having been arrested earlier in the day by Homicide/Assault Unit detectives for an unrelated warrant.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation. On January 20, 2022, at approximately 9:07 P.M., the Colorado Springs Police Department’s (CSPD) Communication Center received a report of a shooting on the MLK Bypass (Highway 24).

CSPD Officers responded to the area and located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medical personnel responded to the scene and subsequently transported the male to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Based on the preliminary evidence and the nature of this incident, detectives from the CSPD’s Violent Crime Section responded to assume responsibility for the investigation. Detectives are actively working to develop information about the incident and identify those involved. No arrests have been made and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
