On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased pedestrian from the 1900 block of South Academy Boulevard. The El Paso County Coroners have identified the pedestrian as 58-year-old Rondell Winn of Colorado Springs. This was the 52nd fatal traffic crash in Colorado Springs this year. As of today, no arrests have been made, however the investigation continues. During the same time last year, Colorado Springs had 43 fatal traffic crashes.  This crash surpassed 2020’s record number of fatal traffic crashes which was 51.

On November 14, 2022, at 9:30 p.m., CSPD was notified of a pedestrian versus vehicle crash in the 1900 block of South Academy Boulevard. Officers arrived on the scene and found a male had been hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on South Academy Boulevard. The pedestrian had been crossing Academy Boulevard in the midblock not in the crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle.

Based on this information, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. The 1900 block of South Academy Blvd was closed for several hours while investigators completed their work. Speed and impairment are not suspected at this time.
