On April 9, 2021, at approximately 10:10 A.M., Officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to a call of a shooting at 3615 East Uintah Street, The Birchwood Village Apartments. When officers arrived on scene, they located a deceased adult male with an apparent gunshot wound.

Detectives from CSPD’s Homicide/Assault Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. After multiple interviews were completed and the scene was processed for evidence, detectives applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for 35-year-old Richard Dolan on the charge of Murder in the first degree. Richard Dolan has been arrested and was transported to the El Paso County Jail where he remains in custody. His mugshot will be released on CSPD’s Twitter account when available.

On April 10, 2021, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed the autopsy of the male victim.  The victim has been identified as 41-year-old David Dawson of Colorado Springs. While the Coroner’s Office will make the official cause and manner of death determination, this death is being investigated as a homicide and continues to be an active investigation.  Further details will be released in the future as appropriate.

Mr. Dawson’s death is the 7th homicide investigation in the City of Colorado Springs in 2021.  The CSPD investigated 17 homicides at this time last year.
