Cultural Collective to present vision of a revitalized historic City Auditorium focused on the arts, culture, education, community activities and events
Now’s the time for the community to hear the plans and provide feedback about the future vision for the Colorado Springs City Auditorium. The City of Colorado Springs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Cultural Collective non-profit to determine the viability of its proposal for pro-active operation and professional management of the City Auditorium.
The third and final community meeting takes place from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, February 24 at the City Auditorium, 221 E. Kiowa Street. The community meetings have been planned and taken place as part of the MOU between the City and Cultural Collective.
During the meeting a project summary and updates, as well as announcement of the selected general contractor, will be shared followed by a question-and-answer session. A live music performance by the bands VALDEZ and Interrobang will be part of the evening's presentation. The community meeting and music performance are free and open to the public. “On the forefront of the City Auditorium's 100th anniversary, in the same way the citizens of 1923 came together, we invite our entire community to come alongside the vision for repurposing this building...a vision to reignite this building to its original mission, a place for the use by its citizens and the glory of the city in a fresh, vital, and relevant way," said Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers. Mayor Suthers walks down memory lane and reflects on the history and the future of the Colorado Springs City Auditorium in a tribute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz91iEUJCzQ
“The City Auditorium is a beloved piece of history in Colorado Springs. The City and Cultural Collective continue to work closely with the community to restore, reimagine and maintain the landmark building for future
generations to enjoy,” said Cultural Collective President and CEO Linda Weise. “The revitalized City Auditorium will fill a gap for practice and performance venues, programs, and education suitable to smaller cultural organizations in need of affordable mid-size venues and creative workspaces.”
According to Weise, “The structure of the business model is to allow use of the facility by a wide array of community organizations and members, inclusive of all populations regardless of socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability and language.”

Cultural Collective Vision: The City of Colorado Springs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Cultural Collective non-profit to determine the viability of its proposal for pro-active operation and professional management of the City Auditorium. The vision of the Cultural Collective is to renovate, restore and revitalize the City Auditorium in support of a cultural city center affording access to all residents and that will assure preserving the history and public use of the auditorium for the next 100 years. The proposal will provide much-needed maintenance, safety improvements, ADA compliance, interior finish, and acoustical upgrades, as well as mechanical, plumbing, electrical and structural system renovations. The MOU does not include transfer of ownership of the City Auditorium property. A transfer of ownership would follow a successful due diligence period as part of a final award agreement and must comply with the City of Colorado Springs Procedure Manual for the Acquisition and Disposition of Real Property Interests.
