On October 18, 2023, at approximately 5:38 PM, CSPD was notified of a vehicle versus motorcycle crash in the 1200 Block of East Fillmore Street. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and determined the motorcycle rider was deceased.
The investigation revealed the driver of an SUV was traveling east on East Fillmore Street, attempting to make a left-hand turn into a business parking lot. The motorcycle was traveling west on East Filmore Street and collided with the SUV.
Based on this information, the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Speed on the part of the motorcycle rider is believed to be a factor in the crash.
On October 19, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased motorcycle rider and identified him as Todd Godby, a 20-year-old resident of Colorado Springs.
This is the 42nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 44 traffic fatalities. There have been 54 traffic fatalities in the past 365 days in Colorado Springs.
