On October 22, 2023, at 5:17 AM, CSPD was notified of a single-vehicle crash in the 4200 block of Airport Road. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and determined the driver of the vehicle was deceased.
The investigation revealed a vehicle was eastbound on Airport Road and lost control. The vehicle hit the median, curb, and an electric pole before hitting a parked car and coming to a stop.
Based on this information, the Colorado Springs Police Department Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Speed is considered a contributing factor in the crash.
On October 24, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased driver and identified him as David Murillo, a 22-year-old resident of Colorado Springs.
This is the 44th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 45 traffic fatalities. There have been 55 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs in the last 365 days.
