Cadet Program


The CSPD Cadet Program is looking for young men and women, ages 14-20, with an interest in law enforcement, community service, and leadership development. This program allows young teens who live in or near the City of Colorado Springs to become informed and involved in law enforcement, while actively becoming part of their community. The program provides weekly training in a variety of topics to include evidence collection, interview techniques, pedestrian contacts, criminal law and many more. Cadets over the age of 16 can participate in the CSPD ride-along program. Cadets have the opportunity to compete at the regional and national levels. Cadets will learn life-long leadership skills while promoting inside of the program and will receive mentorship from CSPD officers and local leaders. Cadets participate in a wide range of volunteer community service activities within the CSPD and community.

Cadet Program Requirements

  1. Must be between the ages of 14 and 20 to apply.
  2. Must have and maintain a GPA of "C" (2.0) or better in school. Must pass a criminal history check background investigation, and interview.
  3. Must successfully complete the cadet academy.
  4. Must have parent's permission to participate in all post functions.
  5. Must participate in community service events, department-requested special events, and post fundraisers.
  6. Must respond to cadet and advisor correspondence in a timely manner.
  7. Must comply with all CSPD Cadet program rules and regulations.

  • Police Ride-along (cadets who are at least 16 years of age, with parents’ consent)
  • Meetings once a week (2nd and 4th Wednesday meetings are mandatory)

  • Joint training with Officers and S.W.A.T.

  • Athletic Activities and Competitions

Cadet Training Academy

The CSPD Cadet Training Academy meets every Saturday for 5 weeks during the specified schedule. Cadets will receive training and an introduction to:

  • Law enforcement,
  • Police ethics
  • Criminal law
  • Radio communications
  • Criminal investigations
  • Arrest Control
  • Officer safety
  • Vehicle stops
  • Patrol functions
  • Juvenile Process
  • And much more!

Once Cadets have completed the Cadet Academy, they will attend a minimum of two meetings per month. As well as a wide range of volunteer and recreational activities monthly.


Cadet Application

Please fill out the application and print it out (once you have added your information you are NOT able to save it, and your information will be erased once the application has been closed). After you have reviewed and completed the application, you may drop it off or mail it to:

We accept applications year-round but hold the CSPD Cadet Academy in the Spring and Fall. Please note the “Academy Participation Liability Waiver and Indemnification Agreement” must be signed in the presence of a Notary Public.  Notary Public services for the Cadet Applicants may be obtained at any of the Colorado Springs Police Department police stations at no cost. Interviews will be conducted at the Police Operations Center, located at 705 S. Nevada Ave.

***Spring 2018 Cadet Academy will begin March 17, 2018 and will end April 14, 2018. ***
