Overview
Demolition underway, building on track to start this summer
After some delays in abatement throughout the Golf Acres site in the older buildings, there's noticeable progress as demolition is well underway.
The project is on track for receiving a building permit in early June 2024. This keeps the project--on the current timeline--on track for an August 2025 opening.
Visit the “photos” tab below for images of the ongoing demolition.
The team is planning a groundbreaking event for July 2024.
About the Project
The Colorado Springs Senior Center in the Golf Acres shopping complex has served tens of thousands of residents since 1986, providing an invaluable service to the community. Starting in 2023, the City of Colorado Springs launched a project to build a new facility adjacent to the old building at the intersection of Caramillo Street and Hancock Avenue in the northeast corner of the Golf Acres property.
The project started in Oct. 2023 with the start of mitigation and demolition of the old building and other buildings on site. The project remains on track for an August 2025 opening. The new center will be approximately 23,000 square feet, an increase from the previous 17,100-square-foot facility. The new building will maximize the available space for parking, improve traffic flow and accessibility, and add more functional outdoor space.
The renovation is funded by $10 million from the American Rescue Plan Act. Additional funding is provided by Lyda Hill Philanthropies, Colorado Springs Health Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant Program.
